I work and I've crossed paths with brilliant educators. Time to collaborate breeds often breeds inspiration. And sometimes that inspiration takes the form of taking one's idea and trying it out for yourself. I've done so, and I admit with the utmost humility, that this idea was inspired by Felicia Alexander, fellow TGCer. Thank you, Felicia, for sharing your beautiful idea. Here's how I've described the project to my class parents: Friendship Bracelet Project: While I work to motivate and inspire my students to follow their dreams, they are incredibly supportive of my dreams, too. Since I'll be traveling to Colombia this summer, I've been presenting lessons about Colombia that tie in with our curriculum. We're reviewing latitude and longitude? Let's use Colombia as an example! 5 Themes of Geography? Introduce through Colombia! We've been talking about the letters they'll be writing that I'll take to the students with whom I'll be working with in Colombia. As part of a cultural exchange, my students are creating friendship bracelets that I can present to students in Colombia. We’re using Rainbow Loops that were funded through a DonorsChoose.org project. I have to say, my students love this project. Who wouldn't? It's been a great activity for part of class these few days before Spring Break.
