During the Fall of 2014, my 8th grade Social Studies students researched social justice activists and advocates from across history and across the Americas. 8th graders conducted multi-resource research, wrote research papers, and wrote formal business letters to their hero inviting them to be inducted into our Social Justice Hall of Fame.
Integrated the visual arts, students created ceramic plates honoring each of the students’ chosen heroes.

We held our culminating activity on Thursday, 12/18/14, when we held the Social Justice Hall of Fame Induction for all of our social justice heroes at which each student offered a toast to their social justice hero, expressing why they chose this person to honor and their connection to social justice. We toasted - "To Social Justice Heroes, past, present and future, especially to our 8th grade class."
